Tips for beginners
A short introduction to ETF....
The most common game mode on ETF is Capture The Flag (CTF), but it also includes
other great stuff like duels, training maps, etc.
When you join an ETF server for the first time, you'll most probably see that
most players are flying/jumping around very fast, because this is what ETF
mainly is about: grabbing the enemy flag and capturing it as fast as you can!
In these tutorial pages you'll learn more about the secrets of rocket jumping,
grenade jumping and bunnyhopping in order to gain and/or keep speed. We've
also written a short summary of the most important special features of the
classes in ETF and about the defence/offence setups.
Offence or defence?
When you join a team you have to decide whether you want to play as offence
or as defence.
The offence is supposed to go to the enemy base, get past their defence, grab
their flag and capture it.
The defence's role is to prevent the enemy offence to steal the flag.
Classes that are mainly used for offence are: Recon, Soldier, Paramedic, Agent,
Grenadier, Flametrooper.
Classes that are mainly used for defence are: Soldier, Minigunner, Engineer,
Grenadier.
ETF is about capturing flags, so no yard deathmatching
allowed!
As the main goal of ETF is capturing flags, we (the KinderGarten staff)
don't allow players to yard dm. (read more about yard
dm)
Of course, several other ways of laming, i.ex. teamkilling, are also forbidden.
Have a look at the server rules.
Beginners...
It happens sometimes that new players join the KinderGarten server and start
playing while they have no clue at all what this game is about.
Sure it's okay to try out a game, new players are more than welcome to this
great mod, and we understand no one knows what a game is about at the first
try.
All we can do is ask new players to pay attention and ask regulars to be patient
with new players.
If you're new to ETF and show the will to learn this game, there's a lot of
players out there that will help you out, no doubt about that!
We've had several new players being kicked for breaking the server
rules, then reconnecting and asking the question: "Why did I get
kicked?!". This is a result of new players not reading what others (mainly
server admins) write.
Warnings on KinderGarten
On KinderGarten we use a warning message that's very noticeable (with sound!),
which is almost impossible to miss.
When you hear the sound "STOP" and see a WARNING message ingame,
be sure to read what's written there.
If the message disappears too fast for you, no problem: just scroll up by
pressing the key that brings down your "console" (by default it's
the key to the left of the "1" key/under "Escape").
If you have further questions after reading these tutorial pages, feel free
to join us on IRC
(#kg.etf at Quakenet). You can count on the good souls there to help you out
with anything, as long as you be patient and polite.
Good luck & have fun!
